First Timer's League Weekly Recap Vegas Vito Finally Gets His Victory His winless season comes to an end in week 23   It's never advisable to take a winless streak into the final segment of the season. And Vegas Vito wasn't not worried about this. The trends weren't indicating that his break through 2021 victory was near as he'd only carded 2 Top 10s in his prior 13 events. Something wasn't clicking.   Vegas' record at the Travelers didn't bode any better either. Going back to 2016 he'd only had 2 Top 10 finishes in 5 apperances. But for some reason he just felt good about his game and fielded a top notch roster.   By Sunday, as the dust settled on TPC River Highlands, he'd gone all in on the gentle giant Harris English. Harris had gotten himself into a playoff and if he won then Vegas wins. If he lost, well, Vegas' winless steak continues. The playoff between English and Hickock would last 8 grueling holes. But as Vegas's and his family watched in utter suspense English sent a final birdie putt to the bottom of the cup to win the Travelers and get Vegas his win.   The winless monkey is finally off his back and he's on the earnings board. He crossed the $200 threshold in career earnings with this one and now turns his attention to the Summer Segment title.   TOP 10 FINISH Reed's Rule Book is starting to get frustrated as he missed his first season victory by just 5 points - his closest margin of defeat to date. He's been waffling in the standings slightly but this one put him squarely back in the top 5 in the Race for the Jackson Cup.   Kings Deer thought he had his 3rd win of the season for a moment but a later-than-usual leaderboard update revealed that he didn't have the FedexCup points to clench it. It's his 5th Top 3 though and he's looking to make up for last year's missed opportunity when he finished 2nd in the Summer Segment.   GreenJacket rebounded after a tough US Open finish and garnered his 11th Top 10. He's captured 4 Top 10s in the past 5 events including a win and 2 Top 10s. Like they said on NBA Jam - he's heating up.    Sugar Hill carded his 8th Top 10 and seems to be stuck in the trend of coming so close to a Top 3 without breaking through. He's finished in 4th place 3 times and 5th once. He's got 9 more events to buck the trend. One-Iron nearly collected his second consecutive Top 3 finish but will settle for 6th and his 6th Top 10. He's making an early case for himself in the segment race so stay tuned to see if he can establish himself as a front runner by week 4 of the segment. Talkeetna was feeling good about the Travelers after winning the 2019 edition at TPC River Highlands. He'll settle for his 4th Top 10 at this event though and his 6th this season. Entering the Rocket Mortgage where he's never had a Top 10 here it'll be intersting to see if he can snag Top 10s in consecutive weeks, something he's only done once this year.   Kikakee Tees, Grippin&Rippin and Bmerk all shared 9th place in Connecticut and collect their 9th, 8th and 12th Top 10s, respectively. All three have started the summer on a good foot but Kikakee has been putting in serious work as he's been rising in the ranks since week 10 and is now finally on the first page of the leaderboard in 13th.  Vegas Vito is on the earnings board and that leaves 12 teams now without a victory this season. Among them are names like ByeBye Birdie (2nd), 617 to 616 (3rd), Reed's Rule Book (5th), Going4theGreensboro (8th), Smooth Greens (10th) and DaHoffa (14th). You can rest assured the majority of these names will get themselves a win before the season is put to bed. The playing of just the third edition of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club is next on the docket. There's not a ton of course history to go off of but Bryson is a clear standout. In situations like this however the question must be asked "will I have enough starts come playoff time?"    It's important to remember that the FedexCup Playoffs taper the number of contestants each consecutive week over a 3 week period - going from 125 to 70 to 30. The final event - the Tour Championship - is where your start-strategy will be tested and who you can start will be limited.    ByeBye Birdie enters Detroit feeling strong as she took home her second career victory here last year and is making up ground on the league front runner on a weekly basis. Another team in top form is Kikakee Tees who's coming off of 4 consecutive Top 10s - can he make it 5? In the league's two prior trips to Detroit GC there are four teams that are 2-for-2 in Top 10s: DaHoffa, Grandpa Levs, Kings Deer and Vegas Vito.
