First Timer's League Weekly Recap Tourball Bites Back At Valspar Just one week after getting his first Top 3 since week 1 Tourball let the fans know that his 2021 season is just heating up. He'd started to hear the whispers a few weeks ago ('Should Tourball hang up his fantasy spikes?') but he's given a resounding answer that he's back in the saddle.    His roster picks were nearly flawless. Each of his four main horses were solidly in the mix at one point or another during the tournament and on top of that managed to pick Sam Burns, the 94th ranked player in the world, who would go on to win the tournament. Bold moves like that are paid out in the First Timer's League and Tourball adds $10 more to his take for the Dark Horse Pick.   Tourball still has some work to do if he wants his season standing to end in a respectable position but he's ramping up at just the right time to make a meaningful season push.  Follow FirstTimersLeague on Instagram Follow TOP 10 FINISH Coming in second place for the 2rd time this season was the 2nd year veteran No 3 Putts Ever.  While his consistency has been lacking you've got to hand it to him that he knows how to finish big. Already with one win so far his penchant for 2nd place finishes could very well mean a win #2 isn't far off.   Perhaps with the biggest move of the week, ByeBye Birdie stormed the field at Innisbrook and took home her 1st Top 3 of the season. She's putting together a tidy Spring so far as she's collected 4 Top 10s and moved into 9th place. ByeBye also put herself in contention for the season as she moved into 10th overall.   Bag Lady double bagged it at Valspar as she's now doubled the amount of Top 10s she won this segment over the last segment with an even 2 Top 10s in the spring. This 4th place finish is her second highest this season and it moves up 1 spot into 29th.    DaHoffa is coming on strong as the weather warms up and with this 5th place finish now has 3 Top 10s in 4 weeks. In that period he moved from 16th overall to 8th in the season standings. He holds 8th in the segment standings as well and clearly has plans for higher ground. The DaHoffa camp is on the move.   Bushwood Slicer snagged his 2nd Top 10 of the spring segment at Innisbrook and is once again on the cusp of breaking back into the overall Top 10. Bushwood cracked the Top 10 back in week 8 but has been jokeying for position since then, falling then rising - as high as 11th and as low as 15th. He's back in 12th now and he has a window. He just needs to punch it through.   Kings Deer did what he needed to do on Sunday - closed out an event for a respectable 7th place finish, his 4th of the season. But more importantly he stole the coveted 1st place position in the spring segment. Kings is surging and he has plans to ascend to the segment throne once again.    The strong play from Grippin&Rippin continued last week with an 8th place finish at Valspar, his league co-leading 9th Top 10 of the season. Grippin had a slow start to the year but since week 5 he's not gone more than two consecutive weeks without a Top 10. He moved into 3rd overall and 5th for the segment and plans to have his hat in the ring in the final showdown.   Where Eagles Dare continues to have a career season as he stacked his 6th Top 10 on his shelf with his 9th place finish. Although he lost ground in the segment race he's just 99 points back of the leader. With 6 weeks to go you can be sure that Eagles will be soaring hard towards his first ever segment championship.    Freeside Links has been in a cooling patter for the last month but stablized himself a bit with this 10th place finish - his 5th on the year. After a hot start to the season he's sunk as low as 22nd only to rebound and rise as high as 14th. He's leveled out in 19th but clearly has potential to crack the Top 10 before season's end.    See Earnings for full breakout

If the horse trading two weeks ago was fairly calm then this week was a fire sale. I guess there was just a lot of pent up demand for horses. Kings Deer took over the top spot while Reed's lost ground and falls into 2nd. Eagles is having the segment of his career and is now just 76 points back of the leader. DaHoffa made a big jump to get into 4th and is now inside 100 points of Kings while Going4theGreensboro lost significant ground, falling to 6th, after gaining just the week prior. Halve Ouimet and ByeBye made bold moves and are creeping up the standings - ByeBye moving up 4 spots off her strong 3rd place finish. Even Smooth Greens in 10th currently isn't out of this race at 177 points back. With 6 weeks to go it'd just take a few special draft moves to make up large swaths of territory.

Lots of movement on the season leaderboard last week as all teams within the Top 10 except, the top 2, traded spots. Halve increased his lead over Reed's while Gophers fell from grace pretty hard - dropping 3 spots on an empty roster spot. Grippin&Rippin moved up into 3rd, Smooth Greens into 4th and Vegas into 5th. ByeBye jumped up 3 spots into 10th. In btween the 6th and 10th spots there's only 100 points of real estate separating them so expect to see some additiona big moves in the next several weeks.

STAT OF THE WEEK What does it take to win the Jackson Cup? Well, for one you'll need to rack up a healthy amount of Top 10s. And of course you'll need to keep any missed roster positions to an absolute minimum. It's no surprise then to see the teams in 1st - 6th on the list below.

Week 17: Wells Fargo Championship   The Tar Heel State hosts it's first event of the 2021 season with the Wells Fargo Championship which will be played in Charlotte. The track is a classic beauty and like many others has a signature set of holes (think Amen Corner, Snake Pit, Bear Trap...). Quail Hollow's stretch is called the Green Mile. And while Tom Hanks won't be narrating the play-by-play  you are sure to hear Jim Nantz waxing eloquent as if an Oscar were on the line.    Freeside Links won his 8th career tournament here in 2019 which was his first ever Top 10 at the Wells Fargo. This event was cancelled due to Covid in 2020 and so Freeside will look for his second successful title defense this year! Driving Mrs. Daisy has the best record at Quail Hollow though as she's accrued 3 Top 10s and 2 Top 3s in the last 3 events here. Kikakee, Talkeetna, Gophers and DaHoffa all have a solid history at this venue as well.
