First Timer's League Weekly Recap Niblick Adds Win #2 In Charlotte Historians will look back on the Wells Fargo Championship of '21 and will forever know it as the Bloody Battle of Charlotte. There were more bodies strewn about the fairways than along the roadside of a Denny's 5-K charity run. Rosters were decimated following Friday's cut and many were left with only 2 players for the weekend. Only the strong would hold out as the relentless onslaught of tough course conditions ensued.   As the weekend progressed it was clear that a two man race was shaping up. Kings Deer and Niblick18 went blow for blow down the stretch but it was Niblick who had the firepower to out gun his competition. Abraham Ancer was the difference maker for Niblick as Ancer got him the needed points on Sunday to jump ahead of Kings and win the Bloody Battle of Charlotte.   With the win Niblick now has multiple victories under his belt in 2021 and adds another $25 to his coffers. While he's not quite in the mix for the season or segment race he's clearly focusing on growing the bottom line. "It's all about the Benjamins at this point - I know I've got another win or two in me before the season is done." Follow FirstTimersLeague on Instagram Follow TOP 10 FINISH Although Kings Deer was denied his second win of 2021 he did manage to snag his 3rd Top 3 on the season and expanded his segment lead to a dominating 122 points. With 5 weeks left he can smell a segment victory in the air.    Bmerk made a big statement in Charlotte as he came roaring back into the season Top 10 with his league leading 6th Top 3 of the season. Just one week removed from getting ousted from the overall Top 10 he's back and hungry for higher ground.   Going4theGreensboro got his 7th Top 10 of the season (T6th) and climbed to his higest post in the standings so far this season - now in 5th overall and 2nd for the segment. He's on the cusp of a breakthrough as he's still looking for a season victory.   RollUp came in 5th at Wells Fargo for his 7th Top 10 on the season and now has 2 Top 10s in his last 3 events. Looking for win #2 RollUp is trending in the right direction.   Oh Geez is making moves. In one felled swoop he jumped up the segment board 7 spots and into 6th. He's got an outsiders chance at playing spoiler if he can mount a massive charge to make up the 248 points between him and Kings.   Smooth Greens continues to be a smooth operator as he carded his 7th Top 10 of the year and migrated north on both the season and segment board. He's now squarely in the hunt for the Jackson Cup (2nd) and at just 197 points back of Kings could make a run over the next 5 weeks.     ByeBye Biridie has been singing a new song over the past 8 weeks as she's carded the second most Top 10s during the spring segment (5). After only signing her name to a single Top 10 in the winter she's flipped the script as the weather warms. Big things on the horizon for the Birdie :)   Grippin&Rippin just keeps on... well... gripping and ripping. He carded his league leading 10th Top 10 with his 9th place finish. His segment leading 6 Top 10s is the current standard and he's solidified himself as a serious threat for season contention. Maintaining his pace will be pivotal.    OffConstantly snuck into the Top 10 in 10th place for his 3rd Top 10 on the year in what has otherwise been a tough season for the rookie. There's still plenty of money out there for him to grab though as season standing is probably not his priority at the moment.   The Bloody Battle of Charlotte resulted in some major moves on the segment leaderboard as teams jumped anywhere from 1 to 7 spots up and down the board. While Kings strengthened his position at the top it was Smooth Greens and Oh Geez who made the strongest moves, going up 7 positions. Going4theGreensboro had a robust week and gained 4 positions and into 2nd. With 5 weeks to go he is in the best position to catch Kings at 122 points back. It'll be a tough climb though as Kings knows how to close out a segment, winning the 2020 summer segment.  It's still anyone's to win though when you take into account that another cut line massacre could be in the waiting.  The season race got a little spicier after last week's shakeup in the standings. Halve Ouimet maintained his lead as Reed's Rule Book fell off the pace but Smooth Greens cut into the buffer that Ouimet was resting on.  Going4theGreensboro made a huge move, jumping up 8 spots, into 5th while ByeBye Birdie went to work pick up 4 positions and is now in 6th. Bmerk is back in the Top 10 after a brief hiatus and somehow, in all the chaos that was ensuing last week, Grippin&Rippin and DontHasseltheHoff maintained their exact positions as teams flew back and forth around them.  EARNINGS UPDATE Week 18: AT&T Byron Nelson   Byron Nelson is a legend in the golfing world but besides his best known accolade - winning 11 consecutive tournaments in 1945 -  the man himself had motivations beyond the game. Nelson wanted a ranch in his native Texas and he wanted to pay cash. He and his first wife Louise grew up during the Great Depression, so they vowed not to borrow or have a mortgage. So Nelson needed to make money and everything he did - from playing exhibitions in towns between tour stops to side matches with tournament organizers - had the ranch in mind.   “Each drive, each iron, each chip, each putt was aimed at the goal of getting ranch,” he wrote. “And each win meant another cow, another acre …” Not that much different on fantasy tour where the First Timer's League grinders are playing for rent every month.    In the fantasy world the spotlight player is Where Eagles Dare. Although the venue has changed for this event several times Eagles has racked up a solid record at the Byron Nelson (3 Tops 10s, 2 Top 3 over 5 appearances).
