First Timer's League Weekly Recap Halve Ouimet Hadn't Had A Major... Until Now   The whispers around the clubhouse weren't promising. "He's too old" and "he hasn't won a tournament in far too long to be a contender." But Halve Ouimet, now entering the twlight of his mid to late 30s, wasn't listening to any of it. Instead  he was determined to rise to challenge of major championship contention after nearly 8 years of broken dreams.    Halve Ouimet's career record in the majors was decent at best. From 2015 up until last week, he'd competed in 22 majors and accrued 9 Top 10s and 2 Top 3s (a win at the 2014 Masters was prior to the expanded league format and stats aren't included). Despite the impressive 2021 season he's currently having he hadn't won a tournament and wasn't expected to do so at Kiawah.   His fortunes would change however with a single rogue roster pick. Louis Oostenhuizen would be his dark horse as there was just something about the South African that seemed to fit Kiawah. Other than Smooth Greens no one else saw him coming. Louis contended deep into the tournament, ebbing and flowing with the tide, and ended up with a T2 finish. It was just enough FedExCup points needed to boost Ouimet into his first legit major championship by a margin of only 9 points.   "After nearly 8 years of grinding it out on fantasy tour, spending countless hours researching players and courses, missing holidays, birthdays and plenty of work, this $65 paycheck makes it all worth it." Follow FirstTimersLeague on Instagram Follow TOP 10 FINISH Bushwood Slicer was so close to capturing his first career victory in a big way at Kiawah but came up just short. Still, it's his 6th Top 10 and first Top 3 of the season. No 3 Putts Ever has a -26% change in the standings over the past 10 weeks which bellies a decent rough patch he's been going through. His 4th Top 3 of the season though is a good correction on the road to recovery though. Sugar Hill hasn't been heard from in a quite a while - his last Top 10 coming in week 8 at the WGC Workday. Clearly he knows how to show up at big events as 2 of his 4 Top 10s have come at high paying events. Kings Deer just continues to pile it on as he carded his 4th Top 10 in 4 weeks and 7th overall (6 of them coming in the spring segment).  HollySandersOldFace has turned things around from the winter performance by quintupling his Top 10 total. While he's not in the runnning for position he could easily snage another win at this pace. Bag Lady may be lacking consistency but she knows how to field a capable roster as she's now got 4 Top 10s with 3 of them coming this spring. She'll be looking for her first consecutive Top 10 this week at Colonial. Niblick18 is heating up. 2 Top 10s and a win in his last 3 starts indicate that he's figured something out. Could be his swing coach or his fantasy coach but clearly he's on the move. For Oh Geez, spring has been a time of rebirth. 5 of his 8 Top 10s have come this segment, including a Top 3 at the Masters. If he plays his cards right his first win could be any week. Talkeetna98 has struggled at times this year and has only 5 Top 10s to show for it. However, he does have a win which is huge and he's finished Top 10 in both majors - time will tell if he continues the trend in the final two. Kings Deer increased his lead yet again with his 4th Top 10 in a row! His 3rd career segment championship is solidly in sight. Bushwood Slicer had a big week with his highest finish of the season at Kiawah but fell short of his first career victory by just 9 points. He moved up the segment board 5 spots into 10th. ByeBye Birdie is saying hello to better season standing as she's been moving up the board for 4 consecutive weeks now and in the past 10 weeks she has made the biggest jump in the entire league with a position gain of 42%. Grippin&Rippin lost a spot in the standings but continues to be a force in the segment and season race. Over the past 10 weeks he has the second highest gain in position - going from 14th to 2nd. See kids, this is what hard work gets you. With only 42% of the season purse currently claimed there's still a hefty amount out there for the taking. Over the next 14 tournaments there'll be $590 up for grabs as well as segment winners and final position payouts.   Check out the upcoming payout schedule to plan what events you want to take down.  Stat of the Week   What does it take to succeed in the grueling marathon season that is the First Timer's League? I can sum it all up in just one word: courage, dedication, daring, pride, pluck, spirit, grit, mettle, and G-U-T-S, *guts*.    Some teams have persevered while others have fallen back. Here's a look at both sides of the coin.   THIS WEEK the Tour heads back to Texas for another classic test of golf as the Colonial Country Club hosts the Charles Schwabb Challenge. Roll Up took down the title here last year for his first career win on fantasy tour. A successful defense would earn him an additional $10 this week.    Phil isn't taking any time off following his historic win and it'll be interesting to see who rides the lefty wave and puts him on their squad. With 14 weeks left in the season it might be time to start making bold(er) moves to climb into contention.    The cut line last week did damage to several rosters and drops in their standing followed (Gophers, Smooth Greens, Green Jacket, DontHasseltheHoff to name a few).
