The season's first segment came to an end on Sunday with conclusion of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The spunky Italian Francesco Molinari took down the title to continue his hot hand as the Champion Golfer of the Year while Gophers continued his dominance of the First Timers League by winning his 4th career segment (2nd winter segment title and 2nd consecutive segment). Gophers is easily the most consistent player on fantasy tour and his challenge to the rest of the league rings loud and clear: if you want it - you're gonna have to come take it. The 5th year veteran and reigning Jackson Cup Champ takes home a tidy $45 paycheck and all without a win during the segment (a very common occurrence in the league). Congrats Gophers! (Your trophy is coming soon - the engravers are just being extra careful with the spelling of your '18 title).
After taking a year off to contemplate his future on fantasy tour Papa Pilgrim has stormed back onto the scene. Apart from currently sitting in 4th place and just ~100 points off the leader he just snapped a near 3 year winless drought by taking the title at Arnie's Place by just 3 points. It's a big win for the 5th year vet as he begins to whip his career stats back into shape. But it's clear he's got his eye on one thing and Gophers won't be wanting to give it up come September. Papa deposits $15 in the fantasy bank as the Spring Segment begins.
THE PLAYERS Championship kicks off the spring segment this week and all the big names will be in attendance. Most Europeans have been sharpening their game on the greens of Florida but any who haven't will all head over for this one. The total number of starts per player has been reset and everyone is once again equal on the segment stage. Some players lost their grip on the winter and missed rosters which is a death knell for anyone's chances. It takes a keen eye and a sharp attention span to stay with it the whole way through and in 12 short weeks we'll know once again who was able to overcome the challenge. And with the Masters just a month away there's plenty of spectacular golf on the horizon.
