Driving Miss Daisy Wins Title Number 2 - Rookie of the Year Talk Begins

Despite the lack of big names on the leaderboard during Sunday's final round at the Quicken Loans National there was plenty of drama to be served up.  Kyle Stanley and Charles Howell III seemingly came out of nowhere to vie for the lead as the 54 hole leader David Lingmerth melted away, taking many team's hopes with him. Even if the broadcasters didn't have a big name to hype up and root for the win just as crucial to the guys left in the fight. And as the eventual winner Kyle Stanley showed in his emotional press conference, a win on Tour means quite a lot to these guys.

And if you thought that was emotional it doesn't even compare to the elation that Driving Miss Daisy felt as she took down her 2nd championship title of the her young career. Miss Daisy took the field by surprise on Sunday when she roared up the leaderboard by scoring 85 points, including 35 bonus points by having the top 3 finishers. In her rookie season Miss Daisy has accumulated 10 Top 10s, 4 Top 3s and 2 wins. An impressive line for any team let alone a rookie. She's making her way up the leaderboard and currently sits in 5th place overall. Not to mention leading the Summer Segment at the moment. She is also tied for first in season bonus points with 265, tied for first in non-winner bonus points (125), tied 4th in winners picked (7) and 8th in points per round (34.29).  Congrats on career win #2 Driving Miss Daisy. 

Notables:

Sunday was a raucous day on the leaderboard as bonus points were the main determining factor for final position. That's Wet jettisoned up the leaderboard in the final round with mucho bonus points from Stanley and Fowler to snag a second place finish and a $5 paycheck. He's now earned $35 on the year. The hard hitting veteran has really put quite a season together so far with 13 Top 10s, 4 Top 3 and 1 win. He's currently in 6th place overall and has a shot at the Jackson Cup but it'll take a concerted effort to get his hands around it as he's 130 points back of the leader. 

Third place finisher Night Putting snuck into position on the backs of Chucky Three Sticks and Rickie who got him a combined 49 points in the final day. Night Putting fell just 6 points shy of snagging another paycheck on the season but is sitting pretty with $40 in the bank. His season is going nowhere overall but he's got a shot at redemption over the Summer Segment where he's currently 9th.

Some said the tournament was Tomte's to win and it very well could have been the veteran's first season victory had it not been for 1 or 2 subs and David Lingmerth's final round meltdown. Tomte put her money on Howell III who fell just shy in a playoff against Stanley. And with several points Tomte will use this as a learning experience as she looks to regain her Summer form of 2015. It's another Top 10 for Tomte, her 6th overall, and a good finish to go off of as she looks to finish the season on a good note.

Where Eagles Dare also had a legit shot at winning the Quicken Loans National but was also undone by David Lingmerth as the Swede held the 54 hole lead but faded hard down the stretch. Eagles was only 1 of 5 teams to field Lingmerth last week and it seemed to be paying off for them. But the Tour veteran couldn't handle the pressure and shot a 3 over final round, costing Eagles a shot at his second title of 2017. Still, Eagles will settle for a 5th place finish and now sits in 11 place overall. 

July Schedule

6th - 10th: Eat My Grind climbed inside the Top 10 on Sunday with a strong showing from Howell and his bonus points. It's only his 5th Top 10 of 2017 so needless to say he's having a mediocre year. Whiny Little Pitch fell off the pace after a strong Winter Segment and hasn't been able to regain her form. Perhaps her 7th Top 10 will do something to put her back on track. Mastersway scooped up all 35 bonus points by carding the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place players. He's currently 13th overall with 7 Top 10s and has a shot at the Summer Segment. DaHoffa has been making strides in the right direction but it hasn't helped him move up the leaderboard. He's been mired in 18th and 19th place for as long as anyone can remember but his 9th Top 10 is a nice accolade to get at this point. Jose Maria Oblazabong is keeping pace with the league leaders and currently sits just 80 points off the lead. The reigning Winter Segment Champ clearly still has some fight left in him as he stalks a chance to raise the Jackson Cup. 

THIS WEEK reveals a virtually brand new golf course as last year's was legitimately washed away. The Greenbrier Classic is back on the rota after being canceled due to flooding last year. The course has been revamped and the family friendly venue in West Virginia will play host once again. We have to go back to 2015 to get our own defending champ, none other than the retired veteran Jowls. Things could have been very different as 2 Footer was denied the title when a playoff between Robert Streb and 3 other players didn't go his way. Buckle up for the Greenbrier as the Summer Segment rolls on.
