It was not the best way to start out a tournament but somehow Robert Garrigus' opening round of +9 would only sting Better Than Most momentarily. Poor play was an overall trend for the league though as 31 roster positions would go on to miss the cut leaving several teams without a player for the weekend. It was Freeside Links who started out in the driver seat and was in control through the first 3 rounds – leading by 6 over Night Putting and by 14 over Better Than Most on Saturday night. But by Sunday morning the tide would begin to turn. Freeside and Night Putting fired opening salvos with a good round from Palmer and an even better one from Poulter respectively. Their supporting casts could not keep up the pace however and neither team was able to break par overall on Sunday. Better Than Most then began to charge - carding a two-under from Howell III and Poulter’s stellar six-under. Even pars from Horschel and McDowell would settle it and by the time the dust had settled Better Than Most had captured 48 4th round points and a come-from-behind win over Night Putting by just 3 points. It is his 5th win of the season and second of the spring. Although he’s no longer in the race for the segment victory a win here helped keep him in the top 3 for overall season standings. Night Putting recorded his second straight stop 3 finish and is showing some pop as of late. If he keeps it up he just might be a contender for the summer segment. Freeside rounded out the top 3 and has to be kicking himself as he missed a substitution in the 3rd round that left an empty spot on the roster and looks to have cost him the win. He’ll look to take a hot hand into this week’s US Open but he won’t be alone as the contenders are sure to show up. Eyes now turn to Pinehurst No. 2 and the season’s second major as Buddy The Bull, Baby Draw and Strangers all compete for the segment win with just two weeks left to play. Strangers and The Bull are competing for their second major but beware of the underdog as teams are streaking right now and a battle is sure to follow.
