Twenty weeks is a long time. A lot can happen in such a span. Wars have been waged and won in 20 weeks. Buildings demolished and rebuilt. Landscapes changed and fortunes made. But it would take Freeside Links exactly 20 weeks to the day - nearly 6 months - to claim his first victory of the season. And what a victory it was. After making the top 3 a total of only 7 times this season Freeside had come close but the title of champion remained elusive. Then came the Colonial. Freeside remained steady throughout, going to the bench only once when Kuchar missed the cut. Fighting off a charge from Strangers and The Bull who finished second and third respectively, Freeside finished strong and went on to get bonus points from both Scott and Dufner which catapulted him to the front by a margin of only 6 points. A long overdue win but the wait was worth it. Strangers went a very similar route as Freeside only subbing once and only differing in his roster by two picks. In the end it would be a wayward round from Dustin Johnson that would cost Strangers the title (3rd RND +4; 0 points). The Bull did a bit more maneuvering with his roster making changes almost throughout. His fancy footwork kept him alive for a time but it would be this very dance that was his downfall as his last substitution in the 4th cost him the tournament.
The landscape has changed quite a bit on the standings as several teams shift spots this week. Another top 3 from The Bullputs him in sole possession of first for the spring as he was able to surpass Baby Draw who fell to second after a poor showing. Strangers rounds it out in 3rd but all three teams are neck and neck.
Better Than Most must have been asleep at the wheel as he missed the draft and ended up with only 2 players on his active roster. It would cost him as he dropped from 4th to 7th for the spring. His grip on the season standings diminished as well but there's still plenty of time.
Show and Dough showed positive signs last week as she made a strong showing with a 4th place finish. It's been an up and down season for her overall but with the summer segment looming she just could turn things around.
Fairway to Heaven has fallen off the mark a bit as he's only mapped out 2 top 3s so far this spring. His early season prominence proved to be too much pressure but time still remains as teams available picks will be limited and true drafting acumen will be the order of the day.
Great Scott! is looking like a chained up animal as of late. Try as he may he has been unable to score over 176 points in a tournament this spring and is winless. He's scored exactly 176 three times this segment and with only 2 segment wins coming at a score below 190 it's going to take breaking his chains for this animal to get a win before the spring is up.
Next week is the Memorial and with only 4 weeks to go in the spring its a horse race between The Bull, Baby Draw andStrangers as to who will take the segment.
