The Florida swing has been full of nail biters and surprise endings so far. Last week was no different. It came down to the final 2 holes and then a final putt. But Matt Every dodged Keegan Bradley’s 30 foot birdie attempt and got his first PGA Tour win. And with it he boosted this week’s winner to his second victory of the season and first since week 1. It has been 10 long weeks since sweet victory was tasted by the artist formally known as Stuff Your Sorries in a Sack - now known as Great Scott after undergoing yet another name change and he will hereby be known simply as “The Artist” regardless of future name changes. The good luck change happened somewhere during the fourth round as Adam Scott melted away and Every took over the lead. It was a close one going into the final round as Better Than Most sat at 104 while The Artist had 108. With stellar finishing rounds from Every and Stenson, as well as support from Na, The Artist pushed ahead, grabbing 20 bonus points from Every’s win – the only player to do so – and finished with a commanding 37 point margin of victory over Better Than Most. Fairway to Heaven rounds things out by snatching yet another top 3 finish. He was the only player to capitalize on Scott’s opening round course-record-tying round 62 (10 under) and avoid Watson’s opening round meltdown of 11 over and subsequent withdraw.
Notables:
Buddy The Bull (may he rest in peace) andBaby Draw went for the hype and were taken in by Patrick Reed’s braggadocio as their A -list starter could not put his money where his mouth is. Final Round meltdowns from Reed and Kirk left both teams less than satisfied.
Night Putting had a respectable week finishing with 128 points and is primed to take over 6th place. Fairly consistent play throughout and the sleeper pick of Aussie Matt Jones helped Night Putting climb the points total.
Show and Dough continues to put forth strong performances and jumped a spot in the rankings this week. Only 50 odd points separates her from 9th and another move up the big board.
Freeside, Lafferty and The Bull are still looking for that elusive first win and have one last shot to snag it before the winter segment wraps up. Victory awaits gentleman… who will take it?
Strangers and Baby Draw have been engaged in an epic battle for 4th and are fighting tooth and nail. Baby has gained over 120 points on Strangers over the last 5 weeks and closes to within 7. Texas might see a changing of the guard.
Next up is the final tournament of the Winter Segment as the Valero Texas Open gets underway in the Lone Star state. Only 100 points separates 5th from 1st so five teams are poised to take a strong opening segment into spring and the season’s first Major.
