Fairway Wins 2nd by Two Points at Valero Texas Open

This week's tournament was a horse race if I've ever seen one. Heading into the weekend it was anybody's game as 6 teams were still in position to pounce. At one point it was Baby Draw who was the favored, then it was Freeside Links who charged ahead. In the end, it was Fairway to Heaven who outdid fellow climber Show and Dough by only 2 points. Making substitutions the whole way through Fairway was able to cobble together a points total that was enough to get the job done. After accumulating 7 top 3 finishes while only snagging 1 win it was only a matter of time before Fairway donned victory's hat again. Show and Dough made a valiant charge towards the top by sticking with her guns but fell short by only 2 points. She missed out on Daniel Summerhays' bonus points though as she opted to play Kuchar all 4 rounds. Sticking with her guns turned out to be a double edge sword for her. Freeside's fall from grace happened in the very last round as Ryan Palmer, who had been so solid thus far, absolutely fell apart before finally carding a +10 and earning zero points causing Freeside to miss his first win of the season by just 6 points.

Yet another tricky tournament proves difficult for teams to pick a winner. The Bull was the only team to garner any bonus points from a player in the field. Daniel Summerhays was his sleeper and earned him 10 extra points.

The Artist, Better Than Most, Jowls and Freeside all got left standing at the alter by the duo of Kuchar and Palmer. It seemed that one of these teams was on the verge of taking victory before both players decided they had more important things to do on Sunday than play professional golf.

The winter segment has now come to a close and after 12 tournaments half the field is still grouped tightly in the race for 1st. Teams will have to look to budget their player usage a bit more if they want to finish the season strong by starting the the big names come playoff time. The majors are now on the horizon and the Masters is just a couple weeks away. This week is the Shell Houston Open and there'll be more than a few players looking for a tune up before they all gather in Augusta.
