Reeds Rule Book Comes From Behind To Win First In Boston - FedExCup Playoff Update

For many of the New England based First Timers last week at the Northern Trust Open was a bit of a home game as the tournament venue was a stone's throw away at TPC Boston. Once again rosters were requisitioned to do battle and once again the cut line laid waste to the field. But three emerged from the fray unscathed and out front as they rode their thoroughbred to the finish. DJ blew away the field and anyone who didn't have him was on the outside looking in. The race on Sunday came down to Halve Ouimet, Kikakee Tees and Reeds Rule Book - all looking for their first solo win. 

Halve started Sunday out with the lead but fell back as Patrick Reed sorely disappointed. Kikakee took over the top spot with stellar play from Victor Hovland but in the very last second Webb Simpson gave Reeds Rule Book the nudge he needed. As Webb drained an eagle putt at the last it provided a bevy of points for the Rule Book in both scoring and FedExCup points to hoist him over Kikakee and into the title role. It was a dramatic way to finish the first FedExCup Playoff event and Reeds Rule Book now has his rookie season victory. He catapulted himself into the segment lead as well and finds himself in a position to contend for the $50 segment paycheck. It's the Rule Book's 9th Top 10 and 3rd Top 3 overall and he now has $55 in earnings. Congrats Reeds Rule Book!

Top 3 Finish

In what can only be a disappointing runner-up finish Kikakee Tees thought for a moment that he had his first title of 2020 in the bag. But after a late update to the leaderboard he'd found that he came up just 3 points shy of that feat. On the bright side though he does collect his second consecutive paycheck in two weeks as he's clearly playing some of the best fantasy golf of his 2020 season. A T2 finish at the Wyndham followed by his 2nd place at NTO has given the Tees $22 overall and into 3rd overall which comes with it's own payout. He's looking to finish the season strong with two more payout finishes. 

Halve Ouimet has had a lackluster season so far and was robbed of his only solo win by his coworker GoldJacketGreenJacket back in week 4 (et tu Brute?). Since then he's only managed two Top 3s and a middling earnings tally of $20. He's never performed remarkably well in the Playoffs but perhaps his fortunes are changing as he looks to finish on a high note and make up for lost time. 

Summer Segment Race

The segment race is doing some serious flip flopping as a handful of players are hotly contesting for the lead. It looked to be a family affair between Vegas Vito and Grandpa Levs but after Reed's performance last week he finds himself in front by 60 points. Grandpa is still holding onto second and will no doubt push Reed's to the edge of his comfort zone as he challenges for the lead. 

Kikakee is also rising fast and has his eye on yet another payday and only 70 points separates him from his second career segment title. 

Kings Deer, Vegas Vito and Nick Hoffman are all still in the race although at a markedly bigger disadvantage. With only two weeks they'd all need to blow away the field in consecutive weeks to make up the gap. 

Race for the Jackson Cup

In a major turn of events the Race for the Jackson Cup is all but over. The two teams vying for the cup - Kings Deer and GoldJacketGreenJacket - were neck and neck going into the Playoffs but an unforced error for GreenJacket turned it into a one man race. As GreenJacket missed the cut handily last week he bled points as he watched Kings Deer confidently add to his lead and make it a near insurmountable total. 

With two weeks to go Kings Deer now has a commanding 300 point lead over his closest competitor Nick Hoffman while GreenJacket has faded to 4th. The fantasy media was hyping this race as the Colorado Contest as both Kings Deer and GreenJacket hail from the Centennial State. Unfortunately we'll get no king of the rockies contest this year as Kings Deer pretty much as the Jackson Cup dead to rites. 

Final position is still up for grabs though as 2nd and 5th are separated by just 50 points. Nick Hoffman (2nd), Kikakee Tees (3rd), GoldJacket (4th) and Reed's Rule Book (5th) are going to have to fight dog and devil if they want to hold onto their final paycheck in a week and a half.  

BMW Championship

As we speak the BMW Championship is entering its second round from Olympia Fields in Illinois. Butlers Cabin is the defending champ this week as he won here last year in what was a massively successful rookie season. The tide has turned though as he is still seeking not only his first win but his first Top 3 of 2020. 

With $50 on the line this week and not a ton of birdies to be had out there it's gonna be a matter of who can hang on the longest as big numbers will be easy to come out there.
