It can only be described as inevitable. The next accomplishment in Miss Daisy's long to-do list has been checked off and it was no small feat. At the beginning of the spring segment Daisy was in 11th place overall. She'd had a decent winter segment but almost without warning she told Hoke to floor it and she's been speeding up the standings ever since. By the halfway point she'd reached 3rd. And two weeks later she took over 1st where she still sits. This sudden burst of momentum helped Miss Daisy to fend off her challengers for the spring segment in the final few weeks as the likes of Talkeetna and Whiny Little Pitch simply could not catch the speeding Daisy.
Driving Miss Daisy capped off an incredible spring performance with 9 Top 10s and 4 Top 3s - nearly going 12 for 12 in Top 10s and never finishing lower than 14th. Incredibly, Miss Daisy has won the segment without a win to her name so far this year, a common trend among segment winners. She's on the earnings leaderboard now with $40 and is jettisoning into summer with a full head of steam. Congrats Driving Miss Daisy on your first Segment Championship.
Travelers Championship
2 Footer is back, yet again, in the winner's circle after his 4 point victory of PapaLevs at TPC Southwind in Connecticut last week. The Foot has been impressive this year - stacking up 3 championships before even entering the final segment. He's ebbed and flowed a bit throughout the Top 10, climbing as high as second place twice, but never holding the top spot. He joins Eat My Grind as the only two teams to with 3 wins this year and both will be challenging Jose Maria Oblazabong's single season record of 4 wins set in 2015.
2 Footer does something that might not have happened before in the First Timers League and that is going back to back with his wife's win the previous week. The husband and wife duo of 2 Footer and Whiny Little Pitch is certainly a force to be reckoned with and it's very likely we could see them going toe-to-toe for the summer segment, or even the Jackson Cup.
Notables
PapaLevs has been an occasional character on the prime time drama that is the 2018 First Timers League. His 6 appearances inside the Top 10 has not been much of an encouragement for the 3rd year vet. However, this is his 3rd Top 3 which marks an all time single season career high for the grinder which certainly means he's close to a breakthrough win. Levs has had some inconsistencies throughout the year thus far but entering the summer segment he's starting even with the field and has a chance to make this his breakthrough segment.
BevGin&Tonic hasn't risen above 20th place over the last 9 weeks but he's managed to accrue two Top 3s in the past 4. He's a veteran from the class of 2015 and in his 3.5 year tenure he's averaged 8.8 Top 10s, 4 Top 3s and 1.14 wins a year. His 3rd place finish at the Travelers Championship is his 4th this year which matches his single season high. Like PapaLevs, Bev has a chance to make this summer segment the breakout performance of his career if he can get some consistency and harness the Top 10 finish. NEXT UP is the first tournament of the final segment. This is it. The home stretch. All teams are even once again with an equal share of the lead at zero points. The Quicken Loans National is the event and Congressional the venue. And wouldn't you know it - Driving Miss Daisy is the defending champ. She's hot off her segment championship and currently sits in 1st place overall. And in the segment's first event she's got a title to defend. There's more money on the table this segment as 2 majors, 1 WGC and 4 playoff events totally $420. The Race for the Jackson Cup and Summer Segment has reached the final sprint. Best of luck.
