Tomte rises like a Phoenix from the ashes!

With only two weeks to go the sun was setting on the 2017 fantasy golf season. The days were becoming shorter and shorter, beckoning to those winless fantasy golfers that the time was now. The road would not be easy of course. There were many obstacles to overcome on such a journey to a championship and none could be taken lightly. Entering the penultimate tournament last week at the BMW Championship the chances of snatching one lone win before the sun set on the 2017 season were dying out. But like the tales of old, such is the setting for a hero to rise.
As the week started out there was too much on the line to recount. Season, segment, cash money, all were up for grabs. Round 1 entered the books with a favored daughter leading the charge. Driving Miss Daisy had designs of putting the final accolade in her rookie-of-the-year portfolio. Round 2, Round 3, both days will tell of the inevitability that was Miss Daisy as she lead after each round - looking for a wire-to-wire finish. But the hero of this story was no rookie.
Tomte began the week 10 points back. And after round 2 she was 16 points back. But she didn't mind. Her squad was on the move and she knew she'd be in the mix come Sunday due to the play of her Aussie dark horse Marc Leishman. Only two players would have the eventual winner on their squad and they just so happened to be the two teams at the top dueling it out. As Driving Miss Daisy and Tomte battled through the 3rd round it was Tomte who had closed the gap and Miss Daisy's lead was now just 4. The Swedish Elf saw her season flash before her eyes and she knew this was her moment. She cracked the whip over her roster's backs spurring them on; their mouths frothing with the taste of victory. And as the dust settled she could barely believe her eyes. She had outpaced Miss Daisy by 26 points for the win. The 2 year drought was finally over and Tomte can finally be called a champion once again. Congrats Tomte.
Notables
Coming in second place was not the way Driving Miss Daisy wanted to finish the week after leading through the first 3 rounds. But there simply wasn't enough points on her roster (bench included) to overtake the eventual total of Tomte. Over her rookie season she's become accustomed to finishing well and this week would be no different, she knew that. But in her quest to seal the deal on rookie of the year she wanted to add win #3 to the resume and it was undoubtedly her best chance. With 1 win
already under her belt this segment, and two in total for the season, she's already made a statement to the league. She'll take home a $5 paycheck to add to her season earnings which puts her right at $50.
Short Strokes is making quite the statement to the league as well and he's saying it loud and clear: "I'm not going anywhere!" The defending Jackson Cup champ nearly put his competition away last week with a 3rd place finish as Kikakee fell by the wayside and That's Wet was only barley able to keep pace. He's just one week away from sealing the deal as the league's first ever repeat winner. It's no done deal but judging by the way the reigning champ has handled himself over the last month of the season reveals true poise. Without key starts from the heavyweights he carefully and craftily guided his fantasy roster through the swales of stormy fantasy seas. Short Strokes has just one week between himself and fantasy glory. Just one more week.

The race had never been closer entering the final 2 weeks of any season. Kikakee Tees had closed theShort Strokes to just 8 points and That's Wet was looming at just 9 points back. This kind of pressure had never been put on the league leader this late into the season and all eyes were on Short Strokes to see how he would respond. His answer came back loud and clear as he increased his lead off of a stellar performance at the BMW Championship. Making only one sub all week (his MO being minimal subs). Strokes went to Day in the fourth with the hope that maybe he'd bring in some extra bonus points but it wasn't needed in the end. He's been steady all season long - never dropping lower than 12th all season or lower than 2nd after week 7! There's only one week to go before a new engraving is etched onto the Jackson Cup. Will it read "Short Strokes" once again? He's got a 27 point buffer over his closest competitor That's Wet so it ain't over yet but he's got to be feeling good.

Race for the Segment Championship
Just like the Race for the Jackson Cup so too is the Race for the Segment down to two competitors. And just like the Race for the Jackson Cup, That's Wet is in second place. But this time he's only 5 points back. Leading the way is the big hitter 2 Footer. He's been on a tear all summer, scoring 2055 points in 12 weeks which is already 300 points more than his highest scoring segment this season. Neither team has won a segment title before and both are equally deserving. A couple scenarios could play out this week at the TOUR Championship would be both interesting and entertaining.

2 Footer could win the Summer Segment and maintain a position inside the overall top 5 for double payouts to end the season. But since he's right on the bubble in position 5 there's a chance he could go away with neither payout. That's Wet has a chance to come from behind to win the season, segment and finish inside the Top 5 for what would amount to a $135 payout. No one has ever won the Summer Segment and won the Jackson Cup at the same time. Either way he'll finish inside the Top 5 and garner some extra cash. And lastly, Whiny Little Pitch could put on a charge for the ages to try and catch 2 Footer. She's currently 59 points back and is living on a prayer but that might be just the ticket if she were to draft the perfect roster and collect all possible bonus points.
This is easily the most action packed finish to a fantasy golf season the league has ever seen and the best is, possibly, yet to come. It's going to be a showdown the likes of Ernie McCracken and Roy Munson have never seen.
UP NEXT - the TOUR Championship. This is it folks. The final week. It's do or die. Win or cry! All eyes turn to Atlanta where East Lake Golf Club plays host to the final event of the 2017 season. DaHoffa is the defending champ this week and he's already got 2 wins over the course of the season. He'd like nothing better than to add a third. The season is up for grabs - will Short Strokes become the first ever repeat winner? Or can That's Wet make a play on him? The Summer Segment is a dead heat - can 2 Footer win his first segment title or will That's Wet play spoiler? Season position is on the line as spots 4-8 are still up in the air. And with 8 teams still out there who haven't won a tournament yet there's pride on the line as well. Best of luck ladies and gentlemen as the final week approaches.
