A new Major Champion is crowned as 2 Footer takes down the PGA Championship

As 2 Footer stepped onto the lush green grass at Quail Hollow Club last week outside of Charlotte he saw before him a pristine landscape filled with possibilities. The PGA Championship was about to begin as the year's final major was being eyed by many. But from his many years of tenured experience on Fantasy Tour he knew his possibilities weren't endless. There were limitations to his game and he was very much aware of this. After all, the veteran wasn't getting any younger and his fantasy golf prime was no longer at its zenith. He'd come to Charlotte to witness something special. And witness something special he did. But like most onlookers of history they rarely expect to become a main character. 

2 Footer called a pre-tournament meeting with his squad to discuss strategy. He told Rickie he'd be leading the charge with Hideki, Jordan and Brian Harmon providing artillery support. But his secret weapon would start the week on the bench and wouldn't enter the action until Saturday. Justin Thomas wasn't playing his best golf as of late but 2 Footer saw a bit of himself in JT and made the bold move to include him on the squad. The wily veteran was in a gambling mood. 

As Sunday rolled around the golfing gods had given 2 Footer the 54 hole lead but it was far from a done deal. With several bullets to dodge including a threat from Kisner the Foot's lead was not safe. But with several holes still to play JT remembered something 2 Footer had told him after the round on Friday. He said, "I've got to go JT. It's alright, don't be afraid. Sometime when things are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys, ask them to go in there with all they've got and win just one for the Footer. I don't know where I'll be then, JT. But I'll know about it, and I'll be happy." In fact, 2 Footer was resting at his home in Nashville when he'd heard the news. Justin Thomas had charged from the pack to win his first major title and, in effect, gave 2 Footer his first major title along side him. The long wait was finally over for 2 Footer and he can now call himself a major champion. Aside from the $35 payout and loads of golf groupies, he can now join the Major Champions Toast at the First Timers Cookout this fall. Congrats 2 Footer on your first major championship. 

Notables

Niblick 18 very nearly surprised the field and came within a few points of snagging his second victory of the season but came up just short in second place with a $10 payday. A major underdog entering the week, Niblick has shown flashes of brilliance here and there but overall his season hasn't given him the success he originally hoped for but he does have 8 Top 10s and 2 Top 3s now. Niblick has the opportunity to move up one more spot in the overall standings before the season closes out and will be battling with Freeside Links in a showdown for 20th place. 

Top 15: 2017 Earnings 

Kings Deer has been a solid contender throughout the season and has one of the highest tally for Top 10s this season. With 15 of them he's tied for 3rd in Top 10s and has an impressive 6 Top 3s (tied for first). Unfortunately he was only able to turn 1 of those into a win but he's clearly shown he has the strategy to drum up a high finish when needed. Look for Kings to make one final statement in the FedexCup Playoffs and add to his 2017 earnings bottom line. 

Short Strokes is running hot and fast in his quest for a second consecutive Jackson Cup. His defense has been work thus far but chinks in his armor are starting show. His final start with Justin Thomas was played to perfection as JT won his first major and gave Strokes 20 extra bonus points, increasing his lead of Kikakee to 45 points. This week's Wyndham Championship will be a prime opportunity for him to increase his lead as once the Playoffs start he'll need to dodge bullets from Matsuyama, DJ, Spieth and Thomas, all of whom he's out of starts for but who Kikakee can use at will. 

Season Standings Through 30 Weeks

Talkeetna98 sent a message to the league leaders that he's not out of the picture yet. The battle for a paid position in the standings is raging as 4 teams are in the running for 2 money spots. Talkeetna98 (7th) is just 13 points behind Gophers (5th) and 21 points behind That's Wet (4th). With Driving Miss Daisy in 6th it's anybody's guess as to who will end up on top with some extra cash to close out the season.  

While Short Strokes took over the Summer Segment lead he's got two tails on him in Oblazabong and 2 Footer, both around 30 points back. Oblazabong slipped off the pace with a 20th place finish at the PGA Championship while 2 Footer made up huge swaths of territory. Again, with Strokes being out of key starts and a successively smaller field throughout the playoffs the opportunity for challengers to catch Strokes is rife. 

THIS WEEK is the final regular season tournament of the PGA Tour's season and the last opportunity for players on the bubble to accrue enough FedexCup Points to get a spot in next week's Northern Trust Open. The defending champ this week is Where Eagles Dare who has a good amount of momentum to retain the title as he's coming of 2 consecutive Top 10s. There aren't many Clark Gables in the field this week so teams will have to be content with a less than handsome roster. But that means this week will count as a "pass" for teams who've run out of starts with the big guns and levels the playing field since everyone has starts left with this pool of players. There's no room to slip now as every point counts for final position. The payout this week is the regular $20/$5 split but then payouts are increased for each playoff event over the final four weeks. Time to drop things into low gear.
