It's been an August to remember for the 'Swedish Elf' as she has risen in stature as of late and is in pouncing position for the Segment Crown. The PGA Championship, the fourth and final major, would be her staging ground for what could be a Segment Championship run. Tomte kicked things off on Thursday with an auspicious round of 40 and followed it up with solid round of 36 on Thursday. Any outcome at this point was far from predictable as nearly every team in the field had the likes of Day, Rose and Spieth. But it would be a rogue pick from Tomte and a straying from the pack that proved to be the difference maker last week as she forsook Jordan for another and then went wild card with a Brandon Grace pick - the only one in the field to pick the South African. The ascent to the winner's circle was crowded. A few familiar faces dotted the landscape as Talkeetna98, Jowls and Kikakee Tees were pursing at a relentless pace. Another surprise pursuant was the season's inaugural winner and occasional contender Chubbs Peterson who perhaps was in the best position to catch Tomte. But the red hot Tomte would not be deterred as she poured on points with Day and Rose and then made a perfect sub in the 3rd to get Grace into the action. Bonus points would abound in this tournament with a 1-2 finish from Day and Spieth - many teams garnering 30 points in total bonus. But for Tomte the title was tangible and she stoically charged ahead. It would be a final round 3 under 69 from Grace that got Tomte the win as Grace's 3rd place bonus of 5 points gave her a 3 point victory over Chubbs Peterson. It was a steely thrust of fantasy chutzpah (hu-tz-pa) from the Swedish Elf that finally gave Tomte her stand-alone championship. She has been on fire in the past 5 weeks going 5 for 5 in Top 10s with 3 Top 3s (2 of them runner-up finishes and 1 win). She'd already etched her name into the record book with a shared victory at the Valero Texas Open in week 12 but the PGA Championship title will be hers and hers alone. She now has 13 Top 10s (T8), 5 Top 3s (T6) and 2 wins (T4) and is in 4th place for the Summer Segment at just 46 points off the lead. In a post-round interview Tomte stated that "The elf is happy... for now." Congrats Tomte.
If the story last week wasn't the moxie of Tomte it would have easily been the mettle of Chubbs Peterson. The two-time Fantasy Tour champion was primed for a late season charge of his own and was right on the heals of Tomte throughout the weekend. He'd gone dormant for a while in the middle of the season, leaving his roster alone without fresh troops for weeks at a time. But turn the calendar a couple pages and he's now racked up 4 Top 10s and 1 Top 3 in the last 6 weeks. We all thought the league veteran had sated his taste for victories with 2 early season wins but it seems the lion is stirring once again as Chubbs Peterson is making a late season charge. It would be the brilliant substitutions by Chubbs that gave him the 2nd place finish and he only needed two of them to get there - Reed in the 3rd and Spieth in the 4th. He's moved into 12th place for the Summer which is far and away a better ranking than he received in the previous two Segments. On the season he's accumulated 9 Top 10s, 3 Top 3s and 2 Wins - a successful season by all accounts.
League heavyweight Talkeetna98 would round out the Top 3 with his 4th 3rd place finish of the Season and 6th Top 3 overall. He's been a topic that's never far from the discussion as he currently holds down the 6th position overall. He only made two subs all week and it would only cost him 2 points in the long run - but is 212 finish was only 2 points off of runner-up Chubbs Peterson's 214 finish. Still it was another solid finish for the perpetual contender Talkeetna98 as he continues to battle for higher ground and a payout with-inside the Season's top 4 teams. He currently stands at just 65 points back from 4th place Kikakee Tees and with just 5 weeks to go he'll need all the momentum he can harness as he looks to pad his season earnings.

With 4.66 Strokes Gained: Total Bonus (Summer) Jowls is in 5th for the category this Segment and has consistently been picking top 3 finishers. He's tied for 1st in Strokes Gained: NWBP at 7.14 which means he's 7.14 points above average for bonus points from non-winners. His 4th place finish at the PGA Championship was a solid performance and he yet again picked high finishers with Spieth and Day (but then again who didn't last week). He's the league leader in wins at 5, he is ranked 3rd in season earnings with $65 and is always a threat to win again. He'll have 5 more chances so stay tuned.
Just as Strangers ended his 10th place finish streak at 3 two weeks ago it looks like he's ready to begin another streak and this time it's 4th place finishes. He got his second T4 in two weeks at Whistling Straits and this week at the Wyndham he'll have a chance to keep the streak alive. He'd much prefer a win though but then again who wouldn't. The defending league champ can't seem to find his way into the Top 3 this Segment but he does have 4 overall to go along with his lone win in week 12. Strangers is ranked 17th with 300 bonus points and 19th with 8 winners picked. It wasn't the season he'd hoped for and one could assume that he tried to rest on his laurels a bit too much and perhaps the shiny trophy atop his shelf became a distraction for him (heavy weighs the crown). Nevertheless he'll take his win to the bank - which is more than most teams can say for themselves.
No stranger to the Top 10 himself is last week's stand alone 6th place finisher Kikakee Tees. The Tees has had a solid Summer so far making the rounds with 4 Top 10s and 1 of them being a win. Kikakee has put together a solid season overall and currently holds down the last paid out position at 4th place. He'll have to battle for it though as a lot can happen in 5 weeks with Talkeetna98 right on your tail.

Baby Draw moved himself into 10th place for the Segment with a T7 at Whistling Straits last week. His Summer has been consistently good and so has his season. He's a two time winner on Fantasy Tour this year with victories coming at St. Jude Classic and Arnold Palmer Invitational. The Baby has been consistent across the board in all the statistical categories but his best Segment was clearly the Winter. A few more high finishes could change that though and Baby Draw is always primed for a hot week.
The story of the Summer so far is a surprising surge from That's Wet. It's only surprising in that he currently occupies 1st place with zero wins and zero Top 3s. That means that the Segment leader is grinding it out with solid picks but just hasn't put it all together for a win. No matter. If he can keep this pace up he'll rake in the Segment winnings and would be the first team to win a Segment without winning a tournament in that time period. He's picked 18 top 10 finishers so far this Segment and 8 of them have finished in the bonus (44%) but he ranks 21st in Strokes Gained: NWBP and 7th in Strokes Gained: Total Bonus. His 1st place status is somewhat of an anomaly but whatever he's doing it's working.
Dr. Vijay's and 2 Footer round out the Top 10 with a pair of T9 finishes. While 2 Footer has had a disappointing Summer after his stellar Spring the Doctor has racked up 6 Top 10s in just 7 tournaments. It's a solid finish for both teams however as Vijay's keeps pace with the Segment front runner and is only 51 points back with 5 weeks to play. 2 Footer holds things down in 20th place for the Summer and has only snagged 2 Top 10s so this T9 is a welcome sight.

This week marks the last regular season tournament on Tour before the Fedex Cup Playoffs kick off with the Deutsche Bank up here in Massachusetts. Greensboro, NC plays host to the Wyndham Championship this week and Tiger is slated to join the ranks. If he doesn't play well in this tournament it'll be business as usual. It's crunch time for those in the league who haven't gotten a win yet as Where Eagles Dare, T-Off-Killah, Show and Dough, Better Than Most and Night Putting are all leading the charge for last minute glory. Night Putting has been a fan favorite this Summer as the league veteran always seems to play his best game when the weather is the warmest. Last year Night Putting came out of nowhere to snag the Summer Segment by a mile and seems to be having a repeat of last year's performance. He's currently in 2nd place and is just 26 points back of That's Wet. The last five weeks are primed for fireworks as it's sure to be a battle to the end. Last year Baby Draw ended a fifteen week winless drought at Wyndham in a year when wins were much more frequent with only 11 teams. The Baby, and everyone else for that matter, could use some luck as things start to kick into high gear. There'll be no holding back as everyone starts to use up their precious starts with Spieth, Day and Dustin. It's going to be a bumpy ride to the finish as the homestretch begins.
