DaHoffa Steals Show In Memphis As US Open Chatter Begins

Summer has finally arrived and with the conclusion of the Fedex St. Jude Classic the PGA's second major championship has arrived - the US Open. While Daniel Berger was busy defending his title in Memphis chattering of the upcoming US Open was already underway. This year's tournament marks the first time since the 1994 Masters that both Tiger and Phil will miss the same major. Tiger is busy trying to find the right cocktail of booze and Xanax while Phil has chosen to attend his daughter's high school graduation instead. But with the plethora of young talent that have steam rolled their way through the PGA Tour there won't be any lack of talent to chose from.

Fedex St. Jude Classic

With one last warm up before the US Open, the Fedex St. Jude Classic proved yet again to be a fight to the finish. At one point during the final round there were 8 players tied for the lead. With bonus points on the line it was truly a toss up as to who would take home the fantasy title. In the end it was DaHoffa who came from behind to steal the show and capture his first win of 2017. It was also just his first Top 3 of the season after a big 2016 season in which he won thrice during the Summer including the TOUR Championship. He also seems to play well in Memphis as he tied for 3rd there at last year's St. Jude Classic making it consecutive Top 3s. Congrats to DaHoffa who is now on the earnings leaderboard.

Spring Segment Championship

The First Timers Spring Segment has just one event remaining and Kikakee Tees has all but wrapped up his first Segment Championship. Entering the week he has a nearly 100 point lead that he's managed to build up over the past 3 weeks by outpacing Short Strokes each time. Kikakee has built the strongest position he's ever had in the First Timers League and will enter the US Open and the Summer Segment as a clear favorite to win the Jackson Cup. The season is far from over however and as teams begin to run out of starts with key players the landscape may very well begin to shift. 

US Open Preview

The venue for this year's US Open provides a fresh face in the lineup of courses steeped in US Open history. Erin Hills, built on glacially formed Midwestern farmland, was completed in 2006 and has an interesting side story behind the two men who envisioned the layout hosting a US Open one day. The course will play tough - with the feel of an Irish links course the wind could play a big role this week. Designed to have the feel of a rolling prairie with almost no trees and thick fescue, landing your ball in the fairway is a must. Add in the blind tee shots throughout the course and accuracy off the tee becomes an even more crucial metric when choosing golfers this week.

The defending champ for this week's US Open is Whiny Little Pitch - the once ferocious fantasy contender who's fallen from grace this year and isn't considered to be a favorite in her defense of the title. Among the past winners of the US Open - Whiny, Jowls and Papa Pilgrim - all have a nuanced understanding of how these championships are played. Will a fresh face rise from the ranks to win their first major or will experience play too big of a role and hand the major championship to a past major winner? The year's second major has arrived and this week's payout reflects it's status ($35 - 1st, $10 - 2nd).
