After Two and a Half Years Night Putting Finally Has His First Win

It seemed like there wouldn't be many good story lines to come from the Wells Fargo Championship as the lack of updates from Yahoo provided no visibility into who was leading the tournament throughout the weekend. Strategy was thrown out the window with weather postponing a round and causing substitutions to be missed or mixed up. Teams might have had an idea of where they stacked up but no one really knew who would come out of the opaque melee that was Yahoo's fantasy platform. But from the dust a champion would emerge. And it wouldn't be the expected white knight ridding - but a dark horse with nothing to lose. 

Brian Harman won the actual tournament in North Carolina and it was certainly a resounding victory for all the little guys on the PGA Tour. He overcame huge odds to out duel the Tour's best and brightest studs in the game. There are many similarities between both Harman and Night Putting as neither was even close to being a favorite entering the week. But the golfing gods deciding to change things up a bit after DJ had dominated the field at almost every tournament he (officially) entered. For Night Putting, he seemed to put his roster on autodrive and let his draft picks do the talking for him. He made the right call with DJ and Perez, collecting 2nd place bonus points from both of them with Phil and Molinari providing backup vocals. Night Putting had suffered through 87 official weeks of waiting for this one. He's the First Timers League's longest tenured veteran without a win until last week and it marks the end of an era (an unfortunate era if you're Night Putting). But the wait is finally over and he can call himself a champion at long last. Congrats to Night Putting on his first career victory. 

Notables

2nd - That's Wet fought a valiant fight but came up just shy of his second career win but did manage to get his second Top 3 of the season. The vet now has 9 Top 10s halfway through the season and is right in the thick of things as we pass the midpoint. Sitting in fourth place overall he'll look to clench another top position, if not THE top position, down the stretch. He's been scrappy with his ability to get bonus points as is tied for 10th with 160 on the season. 

3rd - Baby Draw's Top 3 at the Masters was followed up with a couple forgettable weeks but he rebounded nicely at the Wells Fargo with another Top 3 - his second in 4 weeks. Baby has proven time and again that he's ready to throw down the gauntlet and stake his claim and he's doing it once again. Currently in 5th place overall, he's stacked up 7 Top 10s, 4 Top 3s and 2 Wins. A solid resume heading into the second half of the season. 

4th - Short Strokes and Show & Dough battled it out for 4th place at the Wells Fargo Championship but no one could get the better of the other. They would tie for the position and retake lost ground in the standings. Short Strokes is solidly back on top of the leaderboard in both the Season and the Segment. He's looking strong once again and is in great shape during his Jackson Cup defense year. Show & Dough is looking strong for the Segment race in 4th but is still trying to crack the Top 10 in the season standings - currently in 12th place. She's been making incremental progress as of late though so perhaps she's just warming up. The Show is a Summer hunter after all. 

6th - Kikakee Tees continues his stellar play as the Spring rolls on and is primed for a run at his first segment title. But let's not get ahead of ourselves - there's still 6 weeks to go before the Spring draws to a close. The Tees is also gaining ground in the season standings as well and sits in 2nd place overall. He's liking his chances to contend for the Jackson Cup but will need to guide his ship through some rough squalls ahead. He's also looking for his first win in over a year now as his last title came at the Zurich Classic last year (he was robbed of his opportunity to defend this year). 

7th - DaHoffa needed to get something going last week to stop a slide of 6 weeks without a Top 10. His place in the standings has drastically taken a hit as he's mired in the mid teens in both season and segment. DaHoffa needs to regain some of that 2016 magic but just hasn't been able to command the control he had a year ago. With half the season remaining he's going to need a solid second half to save face. 

8th - Two teams tied for 8th in North Carolina last week with one of them solidly in the mix for season and segment while the other is just hoping for one or two paydays before the year ends. MR. SLUMAN collected his 8th Top 10 and is squarely in the hunt for the Jackson Cup in 9th overall. He's also got 5 Top 3s so far which is good enough to lead the league in that category. On the flip side, Tourball collected his 5th Top 10 and is struggling in 25th place. It's been a disappointing year for the veteran so far and perhaps a good deal of it is due to bad luck. He's collected an impressive 3 Top 3s so far but that hasn't done much for his status. Maybe the warmer weather will spur him on to a couple more paydays. 

10th - Two Tennessee natives rounded out the Top 10 last week as Driving Miss Daisy and 2 Footer snuck into the 10th place spot in the 11th hour. 2 Footer is trying to regain lost ground and has been successful as of late. He's gained a couple spots in the overall standings and now sits in 6th place. He's put together back-to-back Top 10s and is one of the favorites to finish in a top spot at THE Players Championship. Driving Miss Daisy somehow fell one spot in the standings despite finishing in 10th. One of those unfortunate weeks when you do well but your rivals do even better. Miss Daisy is holding strong in 13h place overall and currently has 9th place for the Spring. She's been drawing some attention from the odds makers in Vegas and is an outside favorite for the Spring Segment Championship. 

Top 10 (Spring): Regulation Points/Round

THIS WEEK is a big one. It's THE Players Championship and there's a larger than normal paycheck on the line. The winner will walk away with $25 added to their fantasy bankroll with second getting $7. It's the last big tournament before the US Open next month so a good opportunity to gain some dough before a quiet month. The defending champ this week is In Your Life but he's absent from the league this year. However, the 2nd and 3rd place finishers from a year ago are back and both are revered competitors. Freeside Links was the runner up while Short Strokes came in 3rd. Several other favorites entering the week are 2 Footer,  Kikakee, Tomte and Baby Draw. The big names will all be there so use your starts wisely as we're approaching that time of the year when starts need to be strategically used.
